
Francisco Afonso de Albuquerque was born in Fortaleza on April 25th, 1917. His first contact with photography was at fifteen to make a documentary short film. He specialized in portraits, professionalizing in 1934. He moved to Sao Paulo in 1945 and opened his own studio on the following year. He was a member of Foto Cine Clube Bandeirante where he participated actively in the movement called Fotoclubismo.
In 1948, he was the first photographer in the country to produce an advertising campaign by logging product and model for a campaign of Johnson & Johnson, signed by the agency JW Thompson. Until then, the campaigns were designed to use only pictures and drawings. Chico initiated an untapped market in Brazil.
